Hello, my name is Josh McClung and I am the founder of Graceful Goodbye. I would like to start by saying thank you for visiting us and taking the time to learn more about who we are and why Graceful Goodbye was created.
On December 14, 2012, I watched the news as a terrible tragedy unfolded at the Sandy Hook elementary school. Like people all over the world, I watched in complete disbelief wanting to help this community in need.
This unfathomable event coupled with having recently learned about the exorbitant expenses associated with funerals got me thinking about the importance of community and ways in which to help families cope with this financial burden.
I wondered, "how do families pay for funerals, when they cost on average $10,000?" In search of the answer, I reached out to funeral directors, friends, and families who had lost loved ones. I heard incredible stories and discovered just how common it is for families to struggle with the financial burden of saying goodbye. It just didn’t seem right. Through these conversations and my commitment to make things a little easier, Graceful Goodbye was born.
Although Graceful Goodbye was originally born out of the idea of creating memorial fundraisers, we quickly found that traditional memorial sites were not only out dated and expensive, they were not the special, beautiful place that our loved one deserves. We knew we could do better for the families that wanted a place to remember their loved one and to connect with their family, friends and community.
Graceful Goodbye is a "community place," meant to bring people together during a difficult time. Our hope is that you will use this space to celebrate the lives of your loved ones, bring your friends and family together, and remind us all how precious life is.
I care deeply about all those that visit our site so I invite anyone to email me directly. I would love to hear from you. Josh@GracefulGoodbye.com
